Casa Zii

This house is located in an area dense with buildings, facing the shores of Lake Iseo. The project started from a desire to exploit the potential of a place that was widely neglected; a mechanical workshop that was in disuse for years. First it became necessary to raise the location to street level in order to facilitate the view toward the lake to the north and the olive grove to the east. At the same time it was necessary to create a separation to the south and west. The new building is located close to a 1970s residential building, but is a clear break from this typology. The architectural composition is the result of the superposition of simple volumes; three regular parallelepipeds used for living spaces overlap with a fourth volume of reinforced concrete intended as a garage. Each volume meets strict geometric relationships in plan and elevation. These relationships, although probably not noticeable at first glance, give rise to a particular harmony in the observer. Each volume is therefore placed at a different altitude and inside houses a specific intended use.
