Nuclear power is a controversial topic. It is used in around 30 countries across the world, with extraordinary uses both transformative and devastating. The very first reactor, called Chicago Pile-1, was built by the University of Chicago and included a three-man "suicide squad" on hand to run in if anything went wrong. Luckily, they did not have to be deployed. As with everything horrible, especially technology, nuclear power has some positives that can be drawn from it. The University of New Mexico has cataloged cutaway drawings of nuclear reactors from around the world, colorful drawings that are somewhere between a cartoon and a Lebbeus Woods or Piranesi concoction. The perspectives, labels, and techniques vary, but they all produce a fantastic drawing, no matter what the subject. Here are a few of our favorites.
