Logically, Paris Prepares For Climate Change With a Floating Champagne Bar

Rising sea levels and massive floods are among the risks many low lying cities around the world have to face sooner rather than later. Regardless of whether or not said cities have sea walls or levees in place, flooding is a very real threat. In Paris, torrential rains tend to flood the River Seine, limiting mobility within the city and shutting down parts of the infrastructure to deal with the overflow. To that end, architect Margot Krasojević has proposed a pavilion that could act as a part of Paris’s flood prevention infrastructure. Here's how it works: Grand Cru du Siecle, Krasojević’s flood prevention bar, consists of an enclosed circular glass bar that floats over the Seine’s bell-mouth spillway, which allows water to enter through the ramps on the pavilion’s perimeter and get pushed out into the channel. The water is ultimately guided from street level to impound lakes and nearby reservoirs through submerged canals.
