These Architectural Drawings Are Completely Pointless—On Purpose

Since September 7, 2013, Josh Lewandowski has been drawing an architectural diagram every single day—an ambitious feat that the Minnesota architect plans to do for an entire year. But while architectural drawings often include helpful measurements and details, Lewndowski's diagrams are nonsensical, or as his blog calls them: pointless. "Pointless Diagrams" contains Lewndowski's preposterous architectural drawings, which feature typical drafting elements like directional arrows and cross-section cuts yet provide no helpful information or purpose. "The drawings appear meaningful without actually being helpful," writes Lewandowski on his website, which our friends at Co.Design unearthed. "Some might seem to reference real things or show some sort of relationship between things, but this is merely accidental." While staircases that lead to nowhere, complicated and inefficient paths of circulation, and rooms with no walls might epitomize nonsense, the architect sees no harm in his farcical doodles. "I’m doing it because of my sincere belief that setting aside time to doodle useless stuff is extremely useful," says Lewandowski.
