What's the Big Idea? Architecture Takes the Spotlight at Chicago Ideas Week

Last month, worldwide innovators and creatives gathered in the city of Chicago for Chicago Ideas Week, a series of lectures, labs, and summits to share ideas about the future city. Topics ranged from farm-to-table food to social investment. Here are a few of CIW speakers’ big ideas on architecture, mass transit, and the sustainable city. Images via MAD Architects Lucas Museum of Narrative Art In a conversation with Charlie Rose, George Lucas revealed details about his MAD-designed Chicago museum, an educational institution dedicated to the storytelling art he believes is currently under-appreciated. The museum will host lectures and workshops on narrative art, filmmaking, and digital art. It will include a film archive for the exploration of moviemaking and set design and possibly, some props from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Lord of the Rings films. Lucas described the museum as a “way of improving the educational experience of children in the city, without having to go and try to solve all the problems of every single school. It gives you a gathering place for children to learn and, in this case, it's about storytelling.” ...
