Cult Movies, Summed Up In Architecture

With the ability to create atmosphere, architecture is, naturally, heavily ingrained in the world of film. Spaces—whether a spooky cabin, a looming concrete building, or a whimsically decorated children's room—can establish character and evoke a specific mood or timbre, injecting a scene with psychology and narrative depth—all without the use of a script. Graphic designer Federico Babina (the creator of those oh-so-adorable 8-bit starchitect portraits) harnesses this unique cinematic power in a new series of illustrations, Archicine. Creating portraits of movies based on their scenery, the designers turns the houses into the protagonists of their own films. Which makes sense. After all, what would Moonrise Kingdom be without its storybook red house? Or how different would A Single Man be without George’s slick modernist abode? See how much of a cinephile you really are with these cinematic residences below. All images courtesy of Federico Babina. Want more architecture + movies?
