FR-EE Reveals Latin American Art Miami Museum Renderings During Design Week Miami

FR-EE revealed renderings of the planned Latin American Art Miami (LAAM) museum during Art Basel and Design Week in Miami yesterday. Designed by Fernando Romero, the firm’s founder and director, the 92,000-square-foot cultural structure is a series of four asymmetrical stories, curving rooflines, and outdoor terraces, in white. The museum will specialize in modern and contemporary Latin American art from the private collection of owner Gary Nader. FR-EE’s design allows generous terraces on each floor for outdoor sculpture gardens and seating for an upper story restaurant. Projecting rooflines provide alternate shade and sun as visitors observe outside artworks. Close-set piloti with glass between them create slatted walls for natural light in the galleries. A central circulation core will maintain climate-controlled spaces in the Florida humidity. The first three levels in LAAM will be defined by exhibition purposes. The first floor will house works by emerging artists, while the second is for temporary exhibitions. The third will show art from Nader’s extensive permanent collection.
