This past week's frigid temperatures and slushy snowfall in New York City have us all yearning for spring. Until then, let us take a moment to appreciate the alluring outdoor fire sculptures of B&D Design's Cathy Azria, as we imagine ourselves huddling around one of her striking bonfires rather than holed up in our apartments for the next three months. Known primarily for her indoor fireplaces, Azria decided to experiment with bringing her creations to outdoor patios, roof terraces, and gardens. With the freedom to design without any indoor restrictions, Azria came up with a series of designs that draw inspiration from nature, and blur the lines between sculpture and leisure. Planes Rustic Planes Rustic uses an array of recycled metal panels arranged in a haphazard-like manner. By leaving the metal in its original state, the sculpture acquired a rusty patina that looks exceptional ablaze. Bonfire Evoking the carefully assembled tripod-design of so many rugged campfires, Bonfires is a steel homage to the Boy Scouts ritual.
