Skewed Stilts Lift This Austrian Home Off the Ground to Provide Uninterrupted Views

For a new home in the Austrian village of Bad Leonfelden, a family chose a plot of land that presented both a unique challenge and an opportunity. One one hand, the rather compact site featured a steep incline, which required Hammerschmid Pachl Seebacher Architekten to think about how the house's foundation would fit into the slope. On the other, the clients did not specify the need for a basement, and the site looks out onto sweeping sights of the terrain. Seeing the potential in this particular site, the architects perched the S House's main volume on a series of skewed stilts that lift it off the slope and frame views of the landscape. The S House comprises a single level that covers only 130 square meters, fitting into this tiny locale and maximizing cost efficiency. Rooms are arranged in a U-shaped plan around an elevated exterior terrace, which provides the perfect outdoor perch.
