Autodesk Workshop

This project consists of a workshop, laboratory, and office space that is intended to be used as a “maker” facility but also as a demonstration space for Autodesk’s operational software. Located in a shed building on Pier 9, the project was an opportunity to juxtapose the new technology of the workshop with the old-school industry of the waterfront. We chose a simple material palette, and used it in a contemporary way to create a distinction/tension between the new and old building fabric. The base-building’s dramatic sense of scale was preserved by incorporating a series of double-height spaces and an elevated catwalk. Designed to conform to the Secretary of Interiors Standards for Rehabilitation of Historic Structures and LEED-Gold standards, we hope that we established a vision for how these old Pier structures might be repurposed, and how private use can assist in rehabilitating a part of our historic fabric that might otherwise be lost. The following Autodesk products were used during the design and construction of the space: Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, 3DS Max, Navisworks.
