Autodesk products—including AutoCAD, 3D Studio Max, Maya, and Revit—have brought many architects' raw creativity to life. However, the makers of the ubiquitous 3D design-drawing software are looking to enhance lives in another meaningful way. The company (which is a public voting sponsor for Architizer's A+ Awards) has launched the Autodesk Foundation, the first organization of its kind focused explicitly on design for a better world. The foundation will support nonprofits that use design to help solve global problems, including climate change, access to water, and health care. Grantees will be chosen by Autodesk and given software, training, and financial support for their projects. The foundation's first grantees include firms such as MASS Design Group, which builds health facilities in parts of the world where they’re needed most, and the Rural Studio at Auburn University, which challenges students to design energy-efficient homes that can be built for $20,000.
