Federico Babina, apparently a devotee of art and architecture history, keeps returning with on-point illustrations that will charm any archiphile. His new series, Archist, focuses on famous artists throughout history—and what may have happened had they tried their hand at architecture. Art and architecture have long been intimately tied, and it’s easy to see how some art can be experienced as mini architecture and how some buildings can double as art. These illustrations skillfully translate the style of artists' most iconic works, suggesting what it might be like to live in a painting. All images via Federico Babina. "Art and architecture are disciplines that speak and lightly touch each other,” writes Babina on his website. "The definition and function of architecture is changing constantly with the development of contemporary art." From Rothko’s hyper-minimal townhouse to Picasso’s postmodern jumble and Tony Smith’s building that oddly resembles OMA’s CCTV tower, these illustrations makes us wish these fictional buildings were real. But alas, we will have to just enjoy them in two dimensions—via posters or Babina’s upcoming book of illustrations. {% blog_media_item 778182 ...
